Winter experience in Swedish Lapland

We welcome you to share our arctic lifestyle. Escape your daily routine and enjoy new adventures with us in an arctic environment. We are a long way north, around the Arctic Circle, but thanks to the Gulf Stream you can comfortably experience all the seasons.

Throughout the year there are vast contrasts from polar nights with northern lights in a white winter landscape, to warm summers with a hundred days without night under the midnight sun. In the east you’ll find a 300 km coast line and thousands of islands and a sea that freezes in the winter. In the west are majestic mountains and streams with water so clean you can drink it and in between vast forests and fun adventures from dogsledding to snowmobiling.

Traditions and culture are important in the north and the love of nature is even stronger. Spend time with the locals, including the Sami people who have lived here in harmony with nature for thousands of years. This is our everyday-life, and we invite you to share it with us.

This itinerary is a personal experience where our guests will enjoy the company and guiding of local people throughout their stay. Your main hosts in Swedish Lapland will take you on an eight-day arctic adventure where you will visit their friends who offer some of the most unique accommodation and activities in the world.

Itinerary

Day One

Your tour operator will arrange for you to fly north from Stockholm to the town of Luleå just south of the arctic circle. Here your hosts will meet you and fit you out with winter clothing after taking you on a private guided tour to the fabulous Arctic Retreat. Tucked away deep in the forest at the foot of the Raven Rapid in the Råne River valley are some amazing timber log cabins. This is a hidden gem in Swedish Lapland that offers a personal and exclusive stay.

Owned by a local family, Arctic Retreat is the inspiration of Liza and Niklas. They moved out from the town of Luleå to the inland forest to fulfil their dream. This eco-lodge has a back to nature feeling with delicious home cuisine, warm hospitality in a beautiful setting. Sheltered by large trees, the traditional and luxuriously decorated log timber cabins offer an escape to another world.

They focus on a high level of personal service though out our guests stay and regardless of the days adventures a warm dip in your private hot tub and/or a Swedish Sauna and a delicious meal await you in the evening. The food is a set menu for each day based on seasonal availability and dietary requirements are catered for. The experience is genuine in all aspects – from materials used, food served, to the local people taking care of you.

After checkin you will have time to relax and enjoy the retreat and perhaps a dip in your own private hot-tub/jacuzzi. This evening your hosts will prepare a fabulous three course dinner and after dinner it will be time to go out together into the darkness and search for the northern lights.

Day Two

Today we will head off on a Cross Country Skiing tour deep into the forest. Traditional Nordic skiing is a fantastic way to experience the nature of Swedish Lapland. After being fitted out with your winter clothing and cross-country skis. You will enjoy a half day tour in the forest area looking for wildlife tracks and learning about the boreal forests of the arctic region. Halfway we will stop for outdoor fika which includes tea/coffee and snack. Then you continue through the spectacular landscapes in the huge pine forests. There are great opportunities to spot moose in the winter landscape and perhaps even a black grouse.

Lunch and dinner are again included in your stay as is an evening northern lights snowshoe hunt with a focus on photographing these magical lights. If you are lucky you many even catch a glimpse of the lights later in the evening sitting, in the jacuzzi on the front deck of your log timber cabin.

Day Three

This morning your guide will transfer you across the forest on a one-hour drive to the fabulous Treehotel. On arrival at the Treehotel your transfer guide will introduce you the team at the Treehotel and help you settle in to enjoy their fantastic service.
